Mindfulness is a skill that can impact your life in a wide range of positive ways. We’ll work together to help you learn this skill in an accessible, interesting and enjoyable way. You’ll be supported throughout the process, with resources, guidance, feedback and tuition, all tailored specifically to you.
These one-to-one sessions aren’t “therapy”, in the same way as counselling, psychotherapy or CBT, but they are often therapeutic. The sessions aren’t just about education and skill building. They are also a space where you can share what’s happening for you, and reflect on your experience with the support of a skilled teacher.
People come to mindfulness for all kinds of reasons, including health, stress, anxiety, and depression. Mindfulness is also a phenomenal tool for personal development, helping people to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. What we’re doing is tapping into the innate ability of your mind and body to heal, grow and thrive.
Getting Started
The first session is all about introductions and laying the foundations for our work. We’ll talk about what mindfulness is and how it works. We’ll talk about what you can expect from the sessions, as well as your intentions for our work together. I’ll ask you about your current situation, as well as any previous experiences with therapy or mindfulness practices. In this way, we can start to adapt and tailor our work together to fit your needs.
Confidentiality
One of my top priorities is to make sure that your privacy is protected and respected. Before asking you to share anything, we’ll go through a standard therapeutic contract, which gives clear guarantees regarding the privacy and confidentiality of anything you share during our work together. I follow strict codes of ethical conduct in all my work, and industry standard guidelines on data protection.
What even is Mindfulness?
In the first session, we’ll usually spend some time talking about the basic principles of mindfulness, including non-judgmental awareness, and self-compassion. This is a great time for you to ask any questions you might have about mindfulness, and everything that goes with it.
Your Goals
Together, we’ll start to outline some goals for our work together. These goals can be broad, like reducing stress or feeling more focused, or they can be more specific, depending on what’s right for you. This helps us know that we’re both on the same page about what you want to achieve.
Practicing Mindfulness
During the first session, we might explore some simple mindfulness exercises. It’s all designed to be accessible, easy to follow, interesting, and tailored to you.
Home Practice
We’ll talk about the idea of home practice. Mindfulness works best when it’s gradually, gently integrated into our everyday routine. This can just mean taking 10-20 minutes a day to practice a mindfulness exercise that we’ve been working on, and it can supercharge the results of our sessions. We’ll work together to find a home practice routine that feels accessible and motivating for you.
An Investment in Your Potential
These sessions are an opportunity for you to invest in your own potential. We hold ourselves back in so many ways, and mindfulness can help us be who, and how, we want to be in the world. These are tools and skills that can support you for the rest of our life. You’ll learn how to feel in control of stress and anxiety, how to be focused in the present moment, how to treat yourself with kindness and compassion, how to deal with adversity and just how much potential you really have as a person.
