Therapist and mental health professional, Dave J. Spencer, standing with trees in the background

Hi, I’m Dave. I’m a counsellor, psychotherapist, CBT therapist, and mindfulness specialist.

I hold a wide range of professional qualifications, including:

  • Post-Graduate Diploma with Distinction, in Counselling and Psychotherapy, from Liverpool John Moores University

  • Masters of Science degree with Distinction, in Mindfulness, from The University of Aberdeen

I have worked as a wellbeing professional, with a wide range of clients and organisations,  since 2012. This has included extensive work with universities and colleges across the North West of the UK as a teacher, therapist and lecturer.

I have a specialism in mindfulness-based practices, and I regularly deliver mindfulness training for universities and organisations, as well as individual clients. Many clients come to me because of my experience of integrating these powerful practices with conventional counselling, psychotherapy, CBT and coaching.

I’m trained and experienced in supporting people with a wide range of issues. These include anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, ADHD, and long-term health conditions.

My practice, first and foremost, is to listen to you. I want to understand what’s happening for you. Then we can work together, in collaboration, to find the best way forward.

I do this work because I care about people, and I want to be of use in the world. I also care about our capacity to heal, thrive and fulfil our potential. It inspires me!

Core Values

Integrity

Integrity is crucial to me. My approach to therapy is informed by research and ongoing training. Inner integrity is just as important to me. I have a daily mindfulness practice, I attend counselling, and I engage in regular, ongoing personal and professional development.

Friendliness

At the heart of my work is, well, heart. Much of therapy and mindfulness is a process of learning to befriend ourselves, and that’s not always easy! It’s crucial to be gentle with ourselves during this process. Therefore, kindness and friendliness is always part of my work.

Creativity

Every person and every moment is different. Because of this, my intention is to listen, learn, and creatively adapt to whoever I am with. I want every moment of my work to be imbued with aliveness and presence. Responsiveness is built into my work from the ground up.
